General Information
Volunteering with the SES is a great way to get involved in your community and help provide a vital service for others in times of need.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and a variety of ages. You will need to be at least sixteen years of age, and be able to dedicate your Tuesday nights between 7.00pm and 9.30pm, as well as some weekend days, for ongoing training.

As an SES volunteer, you will be appropriately trained in any skill that you may use when responding to an emergency. Our training is all set to nationally accepted standards and is rewarded with industry recognised certificates in Public Safety.

All volunteers are issued with full protective equipment and inexperienced volunteers are always accompanied by more experienced members. All SES volunteers are required to hold a first aid certificate, with free training and certification available to members. SES volunteers are fully insured for any personal injury they may incur whilst training or whilst involved in an official SES operation, provided they are following SES approved procedures and are wearing approved clothing and footwear.

SES operations are conducted according to standard operating procedures that reflect international best practice for safety.

Not all the roles in the SES involve physical activity, there are plenty of roles in the SES, such as Operations Centre work, Admin & Logistics which require planning and organisational skills. However, you will need to be able to complete the basic skills in our Induction course - this includes things such as lifting loads, tying knots and team work.

If you are interested in joining the SES as a member of the Waverley/Woollahra Headquarters, please contact us on 9698-4477.  Note that calls to this number will be answered by our call centre and that a volunteer will get back to you within 30 minutes.
